Wilhelmine Caroline Amalie Nageborn, often referred to as Minnie or Minna, was born in Stettin Stadt, Pommern, Preussen. Minnie immigrated to America in 1882, traveling aboard the passenger ship "Irthington", with her husband, Louis, and their four children, Helene, Richard, Elizabeth, and Ernest. Her youngest brother, Edward Heinrich Wilhelm Nageborn, known as William, co-owned a machine shop with Louis Jaenichen, called "Jaenichen & Nageborn". Minnie's husband was employed there at some point and according to the 1890 Detroit City Directory, her oldest son, Richard, also worked as a machinist at the company.
