Alvin Dale Barger, 48, of 1504 Marshall St., Eldorado, died 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2007, at his home.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2007, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Burial was in Lindale Cemetery. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at the funeral home.

Alvin was born on July 4, 1958, in Troy, Mich., to Troas and Hazel Barger, their only son.


On Dec. 12, 1977, he married Marilyn Gates. To this union were born his daughter Patricia and his son Troas Dale, of whom he was very proud.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by the light of his life, his granddaughter, Lily Barger; her mom, Ashley Benett; 10 sisters and their spouses, Marilyn Reed of Eldorado, Bertha and Chester Smith of Carrier Mills, Velma Lindle of Vienna, Jeannie and Bob Carriker, Janice and Mike Oldham, Betty and Don Barnett, Judy and Lawrence Pike, all of Harrisburg, Violet and Robert Jefferies of Michigan, Mary Earls of Georgia and Dereatha Flowers of Effingham; six brothers, Zack Morris of Michigan, Glendal and Adele of Kincaid, Troas Jr. and Pam of Decatur, David and Ramona of Springfield, Robert and Joan of South Carolina, Sammy and Janice of Pekin; 52 nieces and nephews, including Wanda (Jesse) Bryant and Mary Wilson, who were raised in the family home by his parents; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; two aunts; an uncle; cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Troas Barger on Dec. 29, 1993, and Hazel Barger on March 19, 1993 (14 years ago to the day); his grandson, Brandon Andrew Smock on Feb. 6, 1996; two brothers, Jerry Morris and Terry Ray Barger; a sister, Brenda Kay Barger; his grandparents; and various aunts and uncles.



Alvin liked everyone he met and they liked him. He always had a smile and a joke. He attended Harrisburg schools. Alvin will forever live in our hearts and memories until we see him in heaven. God speed.
