Ken graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1956 and then attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1960 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After college he was drafted into the United States Army and stationed at Picatinny Arsenal , NJ. When Ken's Army tour was over he remained at Picatinny working for the Army as a Systems Engineer for 36 years. Upon retirement in 1998 he traveled and continued to be an avid golfer.
He is survived by his two children and their families, son Kenneth Jr and Kim Smith and their three children. Kenneth III, Maura and Sean and his daughter Janet and Erik Matson and their two children, Christian and Tessa Rae. Her is also leaves a brother and sister and their families, Curtis and Beverly Smith of Lincoln, NE and Sara and Dennis Bearden of Witchita, KS.
