Ila Maurine Doherty, 90, of Amarillo died Friday, March 16, 2007.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Llano Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. John Bridwell, minister emeritus of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Ila Maurine Doherty was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Lipscomb. She was the youngest of three children born to Mary Ida Prater and Milton Baird Prater. Her only brother, Mike Prater and a sister, Naomi Dove O'Rear and her parents preceded her in death.

Maurine was raised in Lipscomb before moving to Shattuck, Okla., where she graduated from high school. Amarillo became her permanent home after graduation. She married John Houston Doherty on Oct. 31, 1935. They celebrated 68 years together before his death in 2003. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Raymond Eugene and David Dee, both of Amarillo.

Before a lengthy illness, Maurine had been a member of the Congenial Couples Class of First Christian Church.

Maurine's great joy in life was being a wife, a mother and a grandmother. She perfectly mirrored the woman described in Proverbs 31: 27-28, "She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; and her husband also, and he praises her." Verse 31: Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."

Survivors include Ray and wife Danny and David and wife Vickie; six grandchildren, Darla Gammons and Cyd Marusak and Katie Doherty, all of Amarillo, Lt. Col. John Dee Doherty of San Antonio, Dr. Amber Whittenburg of Round Rock and Dana Doherty of Dallas; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176-0001 or a favorite charity.
