Olai was the son of Nickolai Gustav Westrum and Helga Mathilda Olson.

He had nine siblings: Harry Clifford, Anna Constance, Norman Henry, Lloyd Melvin, Cordelia Rosella, Hilman, Rueben Nick, Stella Lenora, and Alice Marian.

Olai married Margaret Louise Halvorson on October 11, 1941.

They were the parents of three children: Rachel Louise, Helen Ann, and Timothy Olai.

Olai married Bertha Mae Brown on August 26, 1970.

Olai Westrum, 85, of Clearbrook, died Monday, February 25, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center, Clearbrook.
Olai was born May 29, 1916, in Leon Township, North of Clearbrook, the son of Nickolai and Helga Westrum.
He married Margaret Halverson October 10, 1941, in Minneapolis, she died November 1969.
He married Bertha Johnson August 26, 1970, she died in May of 1996. Margaret and he served at the Redby Lutheran Mission and were charter members of Elim Lutheran Brethren Church in Clearbrook. They sang for evangelical meetings in the area.
He was instrumental in the formation of the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook. He was owner/operator of the Gonvick Mercantile and the Feed and Seed Store in Clearbrook. He also farmed in his earlier years.
He loved fishing and bear hunting.
Survivors include his son, Tim Westrum, of El Paso, Texas; two daughters, Helen (Steve) Olson of Princeton, Minnesota, and Rachel (John) Peterson, of Warren, Minnesota; one step daughter, Betty Malm, of Grafton, Wisconsin; three step sons, Joe Johnson, of Underwood, Minnesota, Charles (Lenora) Johnson, of Clearbrook, and Fred (Christy) Johnson, of Clearbrook; six grandsons; five great grandchildren; and many step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both his wives; nine brothers and sisters; Harry, Anna, Norman, Lloyd, Cordelia, Hilman, Rueben, Stella and Alice.
Funeral services are Thursday, February 28, at 2 p.m. at Elim Lutheran Brethren Church, Clearbrook, with Rev. Richard Walvatne officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services at the church.
Interment will be at the church cemetery, Clearbrook. Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley, assisted the family with arrangements.
