Nelson Larnard Post was the son of Reuben Post and Ruth Baker, born 12 June 1833 in Windham, Norfork, Ontario Canada. He served in the Civil War from 1861 until he was discharged in 1865 as a Sergeant with the Iowa Company E 13.

Nelson married Susan E. Morey, born 1831 in Adams, Berkshire, Massachusetts. Susan was the daughter of Samuel and Orvilla (Holdridge maiden) Morey. They were married on the 4th July 1854 in Geneva Township, Ashtabula, Ohio. Sad to say Susan died in 1857, the place of death and burial unknown as of 8 August 2012. They had one son Edwin A. Post born 5 August 1855 in Ohio. Edwin died 12 January 1936 in Umatilla, Umatilla, Oregon.

Nelson married second Margaret Lucus on 2 October 1859 in Center, Clinton, Iowa. She was born 9 February 1842 in Pennsylvania; died 29 October 1876 in Ray County, Missouri and is buried in the Little Union Cemetery in Stet, Ray, Missouri.

They were the proud parents of six children:

Liddie W. Post born 1874 Ray County, Missouri
Alexander "Alex" L. Post born 8 October 1876 Ray County Missouri; died 21 March 1942 Kern County, California.

Nelson married third Amanda Mary Hatfield on the 24 May 1877 in Caldwell County, Missouri.

Child of Nelson and Amanda,William Albert Post, born 24 October 1882 in Caldwell County, Missouri ; died 5 December 1888 in Caldwell County, Missouri. There may have been other children.

Amanda was on the 1880 Grape Grove, Ray County, Missouri census with Nelson and the children of Nelson and his second wife, Margaret. No further records have been found as of 8 August 2012 on Amanda.

Nelson married fourth Mary Elizabeth McAdams a widow of Jeremiah "Jerry" Bales. Jerry died 1882 in Taitsville, Ray County, Missouri the 4 January 1887.

Nelson and Mary had a daughter, Jessie Zella Post born July 1891 in Ray County, Missouri.

Mary was born 7 November 1850 in Greensboro, Guilford, North Carolina; died 1924 in Caldwell, Missouri. She is buried in the Black Oak Cemetery, Braymer, Caldwell, Missouri.
