Mark and I graduated from *Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU) in 1988. We had some really good times. Mark was known as Harris, a nickname given to him when he was a kid. Harris was a dedicated and loyal friend. Out of all of the people who I've met in my life he was one of the nicest. Harris had an awesome sense of humor and accepted people for who they were and never prejudged anyone. It was really cool hanging around with him. A very laid back and likeable guy. He really cared for his family and friends. In early 1998 Harris ate what turned out to be contaminated shell fish. By the following summer he had gone into liver failure. Who would ever have thought that eating lobster could make a person deathly ill. By the fall of that year Harris underwent a liver transplant. The transplant was successful and he had an excellent recovery. His body accepted the new liver. Harris had one of the best attitudes I've ever seen. Unfortunately in 2004 his body had begun to reject his new liver. At the age of thirty-eight he lost his battle with liver disease. Harris died at home with his family at his side. I saw Harris months before he died. He said he was feeling well. He looked okay. The higher power above had other plans for him. He's no longer suffering. Harris is probably playing some good games of golf with his father.
*Mark was the son of Neil J. and Lillian (Misact ) Anderson. He had two siblings; Beth and Ross. Harris also left his girlfriend, Sue (Gasper) Doherty. He was raised in Chelmsford . In 1984 Harris graduated from Chelmsford High School. He went on to become an auditor at Deutsche Financial. My friend was a devout Catholic, having been a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Chelmsford. He loved to play golf and was a member of the Nabnaset Country Club in Westford, Mass. Harris is remembered as an athlete and food critic. He enjoyed spending time at Rockingham Park in Salem, New Hampshire. and Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.

*Harris and I managed to stay in touch after graduation. It was awesome seeing him determined to beat liver disease and have a good life. In his short life he accomplished an awful lot. Harris never gave up or complained even when things got really tough. The way in which he handled his illness has given me strength to deal with my problems. It's a comfort knowing that my friend is finally at peace. I'll always be grateful that him and I were buddies.

*Six months after Harris passed away his mother died. His father died in September 2011.

*Now the University of Massachusetts/Dartmouth.
