MRS. CHRISTENSEN DIES SUDDENLY
Mrs. Martin Christensen of Fort Calhoun passed away on Wednesday, March 3, of a sudden heart attack. Deceased was born in Douglas County on December 12, 1872, and was thus past 70 years of age. Practically all of her life had been spent in Washington County.
On April 19, 1892 Anna Dorothy Lund was married to Martin Christensen, and they immediately took up farming spending most of their married life on the farm southwest of Fort Calhoun. Here ten children were born and reared, all of whom, with the husband, survive to mourn their great loss.
Two and one half years ago they retired from the active duties of the farm and moved into Fort Calhoun where they have since resided.
Mrs. Christensen was an ideal wife and mother and her earnest desire to do right was reflected in her life, and those who knew her respected her highly. Just a year ago they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary and it was a happy event.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed the pleasant associations of the order and was always ready to do her part in the furtherance of the cause.
The surviving members of her family besides the husband are five daughters: Mrs. Anna Neuman, Fort Calhoun; Mrs. Emma Born, Oakland, California; Mrs. Myrtle Blankenfeld, Canby, Minnesota; Mrs. Dorothy Allen, Fort Calhoun; Mrs. Lorraine Wiese of Craig, Nebr.; and five sons, Chris W., Irvington; Albert of Herman; Mathias of Tekamah; Victor of Omaha and Russell of Fort Calhoun; also her aged father, Mathias Lund and twenty grandchildren. Besides these she leaves three brothers, Ever and Louis of Fort Calhoun and Sam of Remsen, Iowa and one sister, Mrs. Peter Johnson of Bennington.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian church with Rev. Eekhoff and Rev. Robinson, the latter of Fremont, officiating. The attendance taxed the capacity of both the church auditorium and the basement, and the floral tributes were many and beautiful. Interment was made in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
