John Bissell, oldest recorded child of Samuel Bissell and Abigail Holcomb, b. of record Apr. 5 (bp. Nov. 27), 1659 in Windsor, Conn. He d. intestate prior to Jan. 27, 1684/5, the date his estate inventory was taken:

Manwaring: Hartford Probate District, 1:275.
Probate Vol. IV, Page 217.

• Bissell, John, son of Samuel of Windsor. Invt. £127-02-08. Taken 27 January, 1684-5, by John Loomis, John Moore. The children: Abigail, 3-1/2 years of age; John, 2 years.
• Court Record, Page 104--24 March, 1684-5: Adms. to Abigail Bissell, the Widow. Distribution to the Widow £21-13-04, to the son a double portion, to the daughter a single portion. John Loomis sen. & John Loomis Jr. to be Overseers.

On Aug. 26, 1680, John m. Abigail Filley, dau. of William and Margaret Filley of Windsor, b. there of record Aug. 21 (bp Aug. 22 or 28), 1658. Their marriage record in the Windsor vital records is convoluted. Either the writer's ancestor, Michael Grant, reversed the identity of the groom and his father in his church records, or Barbour misinterpreted Michael's entries and reversed the entries. The recorded marriage, with [annotated] corrections, is:

• Samuell [sic, John], Æ 20 [sic 21] on Apr. 5, 1680, s. John [sic, s. of Samuell], and Abigail Filly, Æ 22 on Aug. 21, 1680, d. William, m. Aug. 26, 1680. (MG)

That the marriage record is reversed is proved by the above estate record for John Bissell as well as the 1700 will of his father Samuel:

• I give to my grandson John Bissell, son of John Bissell decd., £5; and £2-10 to my granddaughter Abigaile Bissell.

The widow Abigail (Filley) Bissell m. 2) Oct. 20, 1685 of record in Windsor, Samuel Tudor, by whom she had seven additional children.

The two children of John Bissell and Abigail Filley are:

• i. Abigail, b. Aug, 3, 1681 in Windsor, d. Feb. 13, 1767 in Mansfield, Conn. (g.s.); m. Dec. 26, 1706 of record in Windsor as his 2nd wife, Joseph Baker, Jr., s. of Joseph Baker and Hannah Cook, b. Apr. 13, 1678 in Windsor. He d. Jan. 29, 1754 in Tolland, Conn. (g.s.). Nine children of the marriage.

• ii. Capt. John Bissell, Jr., b. after Mar. 8, 1682/3 in Windsor, d. Mar. 8, 1771 in Bolton, Conn. (g.s.); m. Feb. 22, 1709/10 in Windsor, Hannah Denslow.
