Firefighter Clement Joseph Fertitta III died June 8, 1993 during physical fitness training in Elkton.

Clement was born in Arlington, Texas, in 1964, where he lived for a short time while his father completed college. In 1965 he moved with his mother to join his father at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland where he lived till the age of 16. The family then moved to Kilgore, Texas where he finished high school and helped his parents operate a printing business. He also went to Kilgore Junior College for a year. Then at the age of twenty-four he moved to Harrisonburg, Virginia and worked with his uncle in his printing business. The Virginia mountains were always a favorite place for him to camp, raise Dalmatians and enjoy the outdoors. While in Virginia he married a Texas girl and they had one daughter. She now lives in Texas.

He also joined the Rockingham County Fire Department where he served at the Bridgewater Fire Department and then the Elkton Fire Department until his death on June 8, 1993. Clement took many firefighter training courses and was in the process of completing his EMT certifications. Being a fireman and helping people was always a part of Clement's life. His maternal grandfather and uncles were volunteer firemen in Texas for many years. Clement enjoyed teaching children about fire safety, while in Rockingham County he was among the first fireman to dress up in the Sparky Safety Dog suit and visit school classrooms. After Clement's death his parents brought him home to Kilgore, Texas where he rest at Danville Cemetery in the family plot.
