Veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Staff Sergeant - United States Air Force. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Marines and served with the 1st Marine Aircraft Division in Guadalcanal. In 1948, he joined the United States Army 11th Airborne Division and completed two jumps behind enemy lines in Korea. In 1957, he joined the Air Force and did two tours in Vietnam. Recipient of the Air Medal, Combat Infantry Badge with oak leaf clusters and Master parchutist Badge.
Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Purser Barnard; son, Charles Barnard, Jr.; and daughter, Virginia Barnard.
