IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Many people will miss Kathy Lord, who left us on May 4, 2006 due to natural causes. Kathy was born on January 23, 1950 in the lovely township of Utica, New York. She was the second child to Edwin Loder and Helen Migala Loder; she followed her sister Chrissy into the world, and was soon followed by Eddy and Little Helen. Much of Kasia's (the Polish version of Kathy) childhood was spent in the car traveling to see her Babci and Dzidzia. Kathy attended parochial school through High School. She went on to earn a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in Special Education from the University of Cincinnati.
Her first job was in Pennsylvania teaching near an Amish community. During her time in Pennsylvania, Kathy learned to crochet (a skill she later passed on to her daughter). Her next jobs were in Georgia and South Carolina, where she lived with her sister Chrissy and taught for a few years. Finally, she followed Little Helen ‘Out West' to Idaho, but she was on her way to Oregon. Kathy landed in Idaho Falls in the mid 70's, and taught in Inkom, Blackfoot, Wapello, Pocatello, and eventually ended up teaching in the city where she lived. Although she always wanted to move to Oregon, Idaho Falls became her permanent home. In over 30 years of teaching, Kathy touched the hearts and minds of hundreds of children. She loved them very much, and wanted to ensure that their lives would be full of joy and that every child reached his/her potential. Her students loved her in return; as one girl said, "She is funny, nice, and tells funny jokes. Everybody misses her."
Once settled in Idaho Falls, not 100% sure that she wanted to stay there, she suddenly found herself in love with Dave Lord. He introduced her to many new things like camping, eating artichokes, cooking without a stove/oven, winning at cribbage, fishing, and the wonderful world of spontaneous road trips. On one such road trip, they journeyed to West Yellowstone and stayed a night in the Stagecoach Inn where Kathy proposed and Dave accepted. They were married on August 26, 1978. On St. Patrick's Day (March 17, 1979), while rain fell and the wind blew, their daughter, Jamie, was born. Kathy also inheried a beautiful step-daughter, Danielle, who in ‘96 and ‘97 gave her two lovely grandchildren, Dylan and Jessie.
Kathy loved many things. Most of all she loved her family; Kathy's life was her family, and she gave them all she had. However, her love for her family was closely followed by a love of sleeping, reading, sleeping some more, reading, and resting. She designed many spectacular wildflower gardens that somehow never quite made it to the yard. Kathy was a joker, always ready to laugh and happy to be alive. Besides letting Dave win at cribbage to make him feel good, she also loved to play Pass the Pigs, Boggle, and Scrabble. Kathy also enjoyed camping, hiking, and falling out of rafts on the Hoback. Another way Kathy liked to spend her time was watching favorite old movies and finding new ones (usually with subtitles). In June 2005 she visited Paris, the city she always dreamed of touring.
We will miss her very much. Especially Dave, Dani and Jamie - they miss their llama.
