Lauren was an awesome man. Born to Madeline and Laurel Lewis Holliday during the depression in South Dakota he was raised with only the things he needed. He grew to be an adult but remained a simple man. He married Beatrice Smola June 4, 1953 and immediatly began his family. He had 2 son's, Robert Dale and Dennis Allen, 3 Daughters, Sharon Ann, Susan Elizabeth and Sandra Lee. In 1975, after a work related accident, he became disabled and left his home in Oak Brook area in 1975 and took his remaining family, wife Beatrice and youngest daughter Sandy and moved to Florida for "Fun in the Sun". In the years he lived in Florida, he took up Comercial Fishing. Let me tell you we ate ALOT of fish, shrimp and crab. Infact so much, I no longer eat any seafood very often! He grew bored with his early retirement, began to look into going back to work. He had been a Window Cleaner all his life and he truely missed the thrill of hanging off big buildings. He was able to connect back up with life long family friend, Charles Sheffer and decided to move to North Carolina and go back to work. Taking his wife, Beatrice and youngest daughter Sandy once again, he made Greensboro North Carolina his new home. Although he did have a house, the road was his true home so his work took him traveling to many places. After 30+ years of marriage, he found himself divorced and on his own again. Once again, he retired and moved back to Florida so he could be near the waters he so much loved. This time he moved without his family as daughter Sandy was grown and married with children. He had been estranged from his beloved parents for so many years but thought of them very often. At the age of 21, Sandy was able to reunited with her Grandparents and remained in contact with them. His father developed Alzhimers and his Mother made a request for Lauren to come back home. Gladly he took up his roots in Florida and moved back to Elmhurst. He remained with his mother Madeline for the rest of her life, honored her wishes and allowed her to die at her home. He mourned his Mother whom he worshiped and loved so much, he slowly began to fall into poor health. Always in contact with his daughter Sandy, promising her he would return home to North Carolina, he stayed in Elmhurst too long. In Oct 2006, Sandy found out how sick he had become and went to him. Sandy along with her sisters and their husbands took care of him, honoring his wishes to be able to die at home with no medical interference, he passed on Oct 27, 2006. His wishes for his ashes to be buried at his Mother's feet and he now resides with her, his father Louie and sister Diana. His death was a direct result of COPD and he is now home.
