Ardis L. Austin, 92, Elizabeth, formerly of Joliet, IL, died February 16, 2007 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home.

A celebration of Ardis' life will be held at the Furlong Funeral Chapel on Thursday, February 22, 2007 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM where a memorial service will be held at 6 pm. A memorial service will also be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Joliet, IL, on Friday, February 23, 2007 at 11:00 AM with burial of the cremated remains following at Elmhurst Cemetery in the family lot, 1212 E. Washington St., Joliet.

She was born on January 20, 1915 in Joliet, the daughter of Oliver and Mabel (Olson) Lilya. She married Lloyd "Bud" R. Austin on September 16, 1939 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Joliet where she had also been baptized and confirmed. She attended Joliet public schools and had several jobs after graduating high school until her marriage. She loved to sing, and belonged to a group called the "Philomels" which was composed of women who had been in the chorus in high school and were now married or career women who still enjoyed singing. They performed at many civic and church functions. She devoted her life to her husband and children. She was a scout den mother and a brownie leader, held various offices in the ladies group at church, and volunteered at Silver Cross Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd; one son, Richard (Hilary) of Galena; one daughter, Ruth (Robert) Gallagher of Loudonville, NY; one grandson, David (Mary) of Northampton, PA; and one great-grand-daughter, Samantha.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lorine Schieber; and her granddaughter, Claire Austin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 412 E. Benton St., Joliet, IL 60432.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Elizabeth Nursing Home and Grandview Estates Assisted Living facility for their tender and loving care; to Galena-Stauss Physical Therapy & Fitness for their work with Ardis; and to Dr. Greg A. Vandigo of Medical Associates Galena for his superb care and understanding.
