Alexander Kidd

Shortly after his marriage, Alexander and his wife completed their preparations for their trip to the Valley, with her sister and husband who had been married the same day. Alexander 's sister also accompanied them. Alexander was named captain of their ten. Upon their arrival in the valley, the Kidd's settled at the mouth of Bingham Canyon . In 1853 , after the birth of their first child, they followed other couples to Fort Herriman to help establish a settlement there. They built a fort for protection against the Indians. Life was not easy there. Food and water were in short supply, Indians were a constant threat, grasshoppers and crickets were a problem. They persisted and 12 more children were added to their family during the next 27 years. When Johnston 's army was coming, they loaded up and started south but a rider caught up with them and said it was settled. Upon their return to Herriman they returned to sheep ranching.
