Deceased Name: Ben Jessup
Ben Jessup -COCHRAN - Funeral services for Mr. Ben Jessup, 89, of Cochran who died Monday, December 6, 2004 at his residence will be held at 3P.M. Wednesday, December 8, 2004 in the Chapel of Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens. - Mr. Jessup was born in Dodge County, the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Jessup and Elizabeth Coley Jessup. He had lived in Cochran most of his life. He was former owner of Jessup Motor Company in Hawkinsville and Cochran. He served Bleckley County as Representative from 1949 to 1960, from 1965 to 1966 and from 1969 to 1981 and he served as the Speaker Pro Tempore for the years 1957 and 1958. He served as a Doorkeeper for the House of Representatives from 1985 through 1994. He also served as a Cochran City Council member for twelve years. A bridge was dedicated in his honor at Shellstone Creek on U.S. Highway 23 on September 10, 2001. He was a member of Cochran First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Benny F. Jessup. - Survivors include his Wife, Lillie Mae Jessup of Cochran; Son, Wayne (Susan) Jessup of Gainesville; Daughter, Kay (Tom Ed) Woods of Pineview; seven Grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. -The family may be contacted at the residence on Cherry Street and will meet friends at Fisher Funeral Home from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday night. -Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
