Virginia "Jinky" Poindexter Saunders, the matriarch of a prominent Fort Worth pioneer ranching family, died on Wednesday, Feb. 14, Valentine's Day, 2007, after a long and eventful life, in her 96th year.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at the graveside. Dr. Jim Sanders will officiate. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Thompson's Harveson and Cole Funeral Home.

Pallbearers: Dave Brian, John C. Bryan, Clinton Calhoun, Jim Calhoun Jr., Jim Calhoun III, Joel Haydon, Thomas Saunders, Jordan Williams and Perry Williams.

Memorials: Her memory may be honored with a gift to Doss Heritage and Culture Center, P.O. Box 215, Weatherford, Texas 76086; or the National Cutting Horse Association, 260 Bailey Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76107.

Virginia "Jinky" was born March 13, 1911, in Fort Worth, to the late J.W. and Carrie Poindexter. She spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and community volunteer. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Fort Worth Junior League, the Jewel Charity Ball, Rivercrest Country Club, Tarrant and North Fort Worth Historical Societies.

In addition to her parents, Jinky was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, in 1974; and her daughter, Jane Venita Calhoun, in 2006.

Survivors: Her son, Tom B. Saunders IV and his wife, Ann; their children, Thomas V. and his wife, Lynn, Ann Catherine Williams and her husband, Perry, and Amy Haydon and her husband, Joel; grandson, Jim Calhoun Jr.; granddaughter, Virginia "Tisa" Brian and her husband, Dave; great-grandchildren, Jordan Williams, Madalynn and Leslie Ann Saunders, Mamie Catherine and Caroline Haydon, Rebecca, John C. Brian and fiance, Beth Murphy, Clint L. Calhoun and his wife, Lauren, Jim Calhoun III, Sarah and Mamie Calhoun; a host of nieces and nephews; and her caring friend, Mary Matchette.
