Edward was the son of George Washington Morelock and Catherine Jane Tate Morelock.
When Edward was just four years old his father died of wounds received during the War of 1812 at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend (27 March 1814) where he was part of the right line of attack on the Creek Fortifications.
