Lloyd M. Helgestad, age 98, of Edgerton, died on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Rock Haven Nursing Home, Janesville. He was born in Edgerton on January 3, 1919, the son of Peter and Bergloit (Stolborg) Helgestad. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant with the 138th Field Artillery in the South Pacific during WWII. Lloyd married Clara E. Benash in Edgerton in 1947, and she preceded him in death in 1969. He later married Dorothy Warden in Rockton, IL in 1971, and she preceded him in death in 1999. He had worked as a laborer for Highway Trailer, as well as General Motors, Fairbanks and Stoughton Trailer. He was a member of Central Lutheran Church. Lloyd grew up as a local farmer, raising tobacco and cattle. He was a fountain of knowledge, always sharing his stories and life experiences with others.
Lloyd is survived by 4 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 21 great great grandchildren; and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents; spouses; daughter, Carol (Einar) Tellefson; son, Leslie Helgestad Sr.; 2 grandsons, Leslie “Punky” Helgestad Jr. and Paul Johnson; sister, Adeline Barrett; and 2 brothers, Perry and Robert Helgestad. Burial at Jenson Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Apfel Ehlert Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Edgerton.
