Effie Mae Carlisle Allbright, 88, of Austin, Texas, died peacefully at home on February 10, 2007. She was born on Christmas Day 1918 to Edwin and Sue Carlisle in Chappell Hill, Texas. She attended Blinn College in Brenham graduating as valedictorian in 1936. On July 30, 1942 she married Captain James J. Allbright Jr, U.S. Army.
As a military wife and mother, she lived in Japan, France, California and Missouri making a home for her family. Returning to Austin in 1960, she worked for the State of Texas and the University of Texas. She loved her years at the University and was a blessing to her co-workers. Even after retirement from the Texas Union, she returned to assist her friends Shirley Bird Perry and Susan Clagett on special projects.
A member of Highland Park Baptist Church, she enjoyed her Sunday school class and the Sewing and Birthday Club. She loved watching Longhorn sports, cooking and was devoted to her family, neighbors and friends.
Survivors include her four children, James J. Allbright III and wife, Mikki of La Grange, Texas, Mary Sue Allbright Thompson, and husband, Roger, of Round Rock, Texas, Lee Allbright and partner Linda Fay of Austin, Texas and Edwin Allbright, and wife, Kim, of Las Cruces, New Mexico; seven grandchildren, Sgt. James J. Allbright IV, and wife, Andrea, of Killeen, Texas, Michelle Thompson of San Marcos, Texas, Frank Thompson of Denton, Texas, Olivia Allbright of Austin, Texas, Joseph Thompson of Round Rock, Texas, Carli and Katie Allbright of Las Cruces, New Mexico; one great-grandchild, Madison Marie Allbright of Killeen, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jimmie Allbright; her brother Claude Carlisle, and her sisters, Mildred Carlisle Weaver and Margaret Carlisle Rehms.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2007 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Highland Park Baptist Church, 5206 Balcones Dr., Austin, Texas, with Rev. John Stanley officiating. A private family burial will be held at San Marcos City Cemetery.
