Cedar Hill Cemetery, Clear Creek TWP, Pottawatomie County Kansas is less than a mile south of the Marshall –Pottawatomie County line. The charter was granted November 6, 1888 & was issued August 5, 1889 as Cedar Hill.

Prior to this date it was known as Buckley Grave Yard, on land owned by Samuel Buckley which he started as his family grave yard. This northern end of the Kansas Flint Hills is known for the many trails that crossed the area including the Oregon Trail. When someone died traveling on one of the trails they would go to Mr. Buckley and ask for permission to bury the dead on his property. Buckley gave permission & so the grave yard became known as Buckley Grave Yard.

When the group formed to apply for a cemetery charter they purchased the graveyard & extra land from Buckley to establish Cedar Hill & he was one of the group members signing the charter.

This area of Clear Fork TWP in Marshall County & Clear Creek TWP in Pottawatomie County became known as Reserville for the large number of Reser families settling the area in 1870. (The Reser’s were my great great grandparents & their grown children & families.) This was never a town but just an area still known today as Reserville. The cemetery became known also as Reserville, still called that today although the sign reads Cedar Hill. If you ask someone directions to Cedar Hill they will give you a blank look but ask for Reserville & they will direct you.

Buckley Stone—Samuel & Clara Buckley share one stone. His information is on the front of the stone & Clara’s information is on the left. This tombstone is in very poor condition. It is broken in 4 places & propped up. The stone is in the first row inside the gate & as picture shows right behind the Cedar Hill sign. My husband does grave dowsing & Clara is buried to the left of Samuel.

I could find no other Buckley stones nor Buckley name on my burial list. Most of the stones in this cemetery are badly broken or missing entirely. The closest stone to Sam & Clara is a Milgate, a name from the Bigelow Ks town just to the northwest of Reserville.
