NEVILLE GREY LIPPMAN GARRETT died suddenly at Eastern Long Island Hospital of heart failure on Wednesday, September 5, 1973. Mr Garrett, an English teacher at Greenport High School, was born in Southampton on September 14, 1933 to Thomas Charles and Violet Sarah Reitz Lippman. He attended Southampton Grammar School and Mount Dora Schools in Florida. Upon completing his freshman year at Emory at Oxford College in Georgia, he attended the University of Vermont in Burlington, graduating in 1960 and accepted a position at Greenport High School, where he taught until the time of his death. In 1967, Mr. Garrett was awarded the N.D.E.A. award to study linguistics. Before graduating from the University, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Germany and the European Theater. He was an active member of the New York State Teachers Association, taught Adult Education classes, was a member of the Triangle Yacht Club of Greenport and for many years the manager of the Greenport Drive-In Theatre. He was survived by his wife, Jean Mary Fuller Garrett; daughters, Judith Violet Garrett, Karen Elizabeth Garrett and Natalie Jean Garrett; sister Pamela (Ray) L Stephens Gera of Melbourne, FL and nephews, Michael Charles Stephens of Macon, GA, Robert "Mark" Stephens of Dillsburg, PA and Tracy Scott Stephens of Melbourne.
