Betty Bell was born in Heathman, Sunflower County, Mississippi on June 23, 1911. She was the 5th child of William and Savannah McCray Newsome.

During her active years she served in the ministry of the Pilgrim Home MB Church and when she moved to Chicago, she joined First Corinthians MB Church. She married Albert Bell on December 3, 1928. Together they raised Willie Mae, Samuel and Shirley.

BIG MOMMA as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, was active in the NAACP and the Eastern Stars.

She passed away in her Chicago home on Thursday, September 20, 1990. November 1, 2011, "Big Momma" welcomed her eldest daughter and my mother, Willie M. Leonard. On May 13, 2021, she received her only son, CSM Samuel Bell.

This small memorial is being made in tribute to her and if she is looking at this moment, she will fuss about it, but it's something I wanted to do because I miss her so much!

Love you Big Momma!
