Christ Jake "Butch" Aalfs, 84, of Buchanan died at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, with the Rev. Charles Johnston of First Missionary Baptist Church, Buchanan. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hoven Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Buchanan Meadows Living Center, 809 Carroll, Buchanan, Mich. 49107.

Mr. Aalfs was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Buchanan, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of VFW Post 3102, Buchanan Fire Department, and Buchanan Moose Lodge. Mr. Aalfs was founder and owner of Aalfs Service, Buchanan, since 1959 until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Olga Aalfs; brother, Henry Aalfs; a sister, Henrietta Aalfs; and a granddaughter, Amy Michelle Leidy.

He is survived by his wife, Frances (Russell) Aalfs, whom he married on June 21, 1947, in Buchanan. Also surviving, two sons, Larry (Cheri) Aalfs and Mike (Mary) Aalfs, both of Buchanan; daughters, Susan (Bill) Leidy of Buchanan and Joan Aalfs of St. Joseph; eight grandchildren, Mike Leidy, Adam Leidy, Heidi Leidy, Jaime Aalfs, Carre Aalfs, Tori Aalfs, Kimi Aalfs and Tina Aalfs; eight great-grandchildren, Alexis Leidy, A.J. Leidy, Sara Leidy, Addison Warmbein, Carter Aalfs, Jacob Aalfs, Makayla Aalfs and Amaya Huffer; and a brother, Gene (Margaret) Aalfs of Buchanan.Robert Henry Burandt
