US Marine Private First Class Samuel Frank Hollifield Jr was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, PFC Hollifield served our country until January 7th, 1968 in Thua Thien, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that Samuel died from artillery fire. His body was recovered. Samuel was born on May 23rd, 1948 in Lexington, North Carolina. PFC Hollifield is on panel 33E, line 069 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
He was the son of Mr Samuel Frank Hollifield and Mrs Agnes D Monteith Hollifield, Jacksonville, NC.
He served with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, 3rd MAF.
He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds with One Gold Star, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
