The last siren sounded on Saturday January 4, 1992 for David R St.Johns SR 54 a fireman for 30 years as a member of Northwood Volunteer Fire Department, following the funeral service in the Rossford-Sujkowski Funeral Home with the Reverend Phillip Clark officiating.
David passed away suddenly January 1, in St. Charles hospital
David was born May 11, 1937, in Toledo to Reg and Margorie (Heuring) St.Johns and they survive he was a veteran of the Ohio National Guard; the Rossford Eagles Aerie 2322 and the Northwood VFW Post 2984. David was employed at the Toledo Mold Company in the maintenance department for over 30 years.
Surviving with his loving parents are sons Kevin, Dennis, Dan, David Jr, and Robert. Daughters; Pam Rice and Margorie Emmons, Brothers Ronald and Duwane seven grandchildren.
On Friday evening the Rossford Eagles held a memorial service followed by the Northwood Fire Department Service.
On Saturday following the funeral in the funeral home the Rossford Police escorted the entourage to the city limits ahead of the Rossford Fire Department with Captain Tony Jackson in the lead followed by the Northwood Police and Fire Departments.
They then took the procession over the Oregon road bridge going to the Northwood Lark district fire house. Where they stopped, as a chair, with David's coat on the back,, his hat on the seat and his boots on the ground, was in front of the fire house. The firemen, all in their gear, had two fire trucks one on each side of Andrus road, the ladders high with the buckets holding them up, and in the center of the road, high above the American flag was flying. All the firemen lined up in order alongside the hearse and saluted as the siren blew once, The Last Alarm in his honor.
The Northwood Police then took the lead, followed by the Northwood And Rossford fire departments escorting David to his last resting place in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The final tribute was given in the cemetery by Rev. Clark
