Ovelle Benefield, 89, of 4090 Rockmart Hwy, Cedartown, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2002. Mrs. Benefield was born April 16, 1913. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. "Bill" Benefield; sons, Dewey Benefield, Charles Ray Benefield, and Joe Alton Benefield; mother, Virgin Lumpston Sloan and father L.C. Sloan; sisters, Ola Wilkes, Mae Draffron and Ruthie Malone; brothers Arlin, Elmer and Ed Sloan; great grandson, Samuel Jerome Smith; granddaughter, Leilani Benefield. Survivors include children Delano Benefield and T.W. "Wayne" Benefield, Juanita Benefield Agan, and Mary Dathnia Ledford; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. at Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Jerome Smith and Rev. R.B. Hulsey officiating. Interment followed in Northview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Douglas Benefield, Randy Smith, Tom Benefield, Ronald Smith, Nick Hughes, Corey Smith, Jimmy Price, Mark Sutton, and Christopher Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Shawn Smith, Benj Wooten, Hobie Wooten, Joseph Hillard, Jimmy Cash, and Troy Smith. Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
