Bishop Talbot was consecrated the first Missionary Bishop of Wyoming and Idaho on May27,1886 and held that see until1908. He was consecrated the 3rd Bishop of Central Pennsylvania on February 2,1898, holding
the two sees concurrently for 10 years. He was bishop of the Diocese of Bethlehem { the new name for the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania} until1927. On February 18, 1924 he became the Presiding Bishop {head bishop} of the Episcopal Church in the USA on the death of the previous Presiding Bishop by virtue of his seniority as a bishop, a post he held until January 1,1926, when the first elected Presiding Bishop took
office.
