OBITUARY
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Feb. 16,
at 2:30 o'clock in the Hayward United Brethern Church,
for James Cook. At the funeral services the following
obituary was read by Rev. Roy E. Trent of Hayward.
James Cook was born in Lima, Ohio, on Sept. 8, 1860,
and died Feb. 14, 1940, at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. Brengle Adams of Guthrie, Okla.
At the age of 20 he moved to Concordia, Kans., with
his parents. He was united in marriage with Helen Jupe
on March 27, 1888. To this union was born seven children,
the youngest of whom preceded him in death in 1918.
He homesteaded with his family in Garfield County, near
Hayward, during the opening of the Cherokee Strip in 1893.
About a year ago he moved with his wife to Hayward where he
lived until his death.
Shortly after moving to Garfield County, he united with the
United Brethern Church of Hayward, where he was a faithful
member until his death.
He was a charter member of the Odd Fellow Lodge of Hayward.
Survivors included his widow, six children, Mrs. R.M. Rasmussen,
Blackwell; Harley Cook, Lucien; Mrs. Sherman Nicholas, Okeene;
Mrs. Andrew Adkins, Palo Alto, Calif.; Everett Cook, Canton, Kans.;
and Mrs. Brengle Adams, Guthrie; two sisters, nine grandchildren,
six great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was a kind and loving husband and father and was very devoted
to his family.
