In Lampasas County, in March of 1867, Mary Rebecca Hill married John Tyler
Burleson (born abt 1845, Travis County). They had at least one child together,
John Hill Burleson. Early in 1871, during the Reconstruction era, J.T. Burleson
is said to have been killed by U.S. soldiers, in Lampasas County.
The same year, 13 April 1871, Mary R. Hill Burleson married Charles G. Caldwell in
Bastrop County, who was appointed as the legal guardian of her little son. The
couple had four additional children, with two of those surviving to adulthood.

Mary Rebecca died at age 34, leaving Charles as a widower with young children.
Her parents were said to have been Mercer and Rebecca Hill, both born in Tenn.
