SP4 William Edward Barnes was a member of the Army and served our country until January 8th, 1970 in Kien Phong, South Vietnam. He was 29 years old and was married. It was reported that William died when his helicopter crashed. His body was recovered. SP4 Barnes is on panel 14W, line 011 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He is the Son of Mr Alexander and Mrs Magnolia Andrew Barnes, husband of Mrs Jacqueline Barnes of Rocky Mount.
He served with the 114th Assault Helicopter Company, 164th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade, USARV.
He was awarded The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Army Commendation Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and the Air Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters.
