Evelyn M. Allen, 79, died Friday, January 19, 1996, at her residence in Byron, Mn.

She was born to William and Alpha (Lee) Brooks, April 15, 1916, in Ingomar, Montana. She graduated from Brad Gate High School in Iowa. She first lived in West Bend, Iowa, then moved to Adams in 1949. In July 1995 she moved to Byron.

She married Glen Allen, June 25, 1941 in West Bend. For more than thirty years she worked for Northwestern National Life Insurance Co. Evelyn was a member of Little Cedar Lutheran Church, Adams, Little Cedar Circle, Friendly Garden Club, Professional Business Women's Association Adams Nursing Home Auxiliary, Neighborhood City Circle and Adams American Legion Auxiliary.

She loved to entertain at her home. She was involved in volunteer work for the Adams area which included writing the history for the Adams 125 anniversary celebration.

She is survived by sons, James Allen, Florence, Ore., Terry Allen, Mason City, Iowa; daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Jerry Anderson, Byron; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Pearle Gerber, Iowa City, Iowa; half-brother, Harry Rygmur, Tacoma, Wa; two half-sisters, Donna Poston, Bonners Ferry, ID, and Bernice Morgan, Tacoma, Wa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glen Allen and brother Edward Brooks.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 24 at Little Cedar Lutheran Church, Adams with the Revs. Allen Gunderson and Mark Hegeland officiating. Interment was in the Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery. Honorary bearers were Charles Fausch, Harry Kramer and Dean Julifs. Pallbearers were Jim Osmundson, Greg Staples, Dan Allen, Roger Gerber, Sheldon Heimer and Allen Dean Yotter.

Organist for the service was Pat Hinz and soloist, the Rev. Donna Joseph. Arrangements were with Adams Funeral Home.
