Burial will be at Chesteron Cemetery.

Donald B. Metzner "Crankshaft", 80, Chesterton, father of a local resident, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at his residence.

He was born at Union Mills on Dec. 15, 1925, to Gustave Adolph and Laura Mae (Burlingham) Metzner. He married Doris O. Canter, at Augsburg Lutheran Church, Porter on June 18, 1944. She survives.

He served in the United States Army.He was retired from the Teamster Local 142 as a mechanic. He was a member of the VFW Porter Post 2511 and Chesterton American Legion Post 170.

Other survivors include daughters, Rose Marie (Dr. Charles) Crockett, Evansville, and Rhonda Sue (Roger) Farney, Monticello; sister, Jean Ann Good, Springville; grandchildren, Michael W. (Brenda) Metzner and eight other
grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

A son, Donald "Rusty" Metzner and brothers, George, Ronald, and Richard Metzner are deceased.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Rhine officiating. Burial will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to V.N.A. Hospice Center of Porter County.
