Shawnee resident Marjorie Ellen VanBeber, 93, died Saturday, Nov. 25, in a Claremore nursing home.
Marjorie was born June 29, 1913, in Vernon, Kan., to Bert and Susan Tannahill. She graduated from Vernon High School and received a teaching certificate from Pittsburg State University.

In 1939 she married Maurice Cooper VanBeber in Lyndon, Kan.

She was a school teacher for several years. Along with her husband, she was the owner and operator of the Daisy Q in Shawnee. She also was a homemaker and a part-time assistant librarian.

Marjorie was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Sunday School teacher and Brownie Scout Leader and Cub Scout Leader.

She was an amateur artist, winning several awards for her paintings. She enjoyed church, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling, walking and having coffee with her friends. She also was a wonderful cook and seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jim VanBeber; five brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two children, Bill VanBeber of Shawnee and Margaret Eilene Allison of Adair, Okla.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Burress officating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Buffalo, Kan. Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee, is directing arrangements.
