Claude was the son of Norman Henry Ives and Rebecca Ruth Dean. He married on July 25, 1895, Lewisville, Idaho to Hattie Evelina Yearian. They made their home in Ogden, Utah, until 1913 when they moved to Los Angeles, California. There they resided at 1841 South Wilton Place, now part of the West Adams Historical District.
