From the Edgewood Reminder, May 30, 1990, Page 3: Olive Rebecca Thompson was born October 1, 1888 at Elkport, Iowa to Edward and Minnie (Hosier) Godden. She was raised and educated in the area attending rural school. She later moved to Elkader, Iowa where she was employed as a cook. March 3, 1909 Olive was united in marriage to George Thompson. Together they farmed near Greeley, Iowa. Upon retirement they moved into town. George died May 29, 1959. Olive remained at their home until entering the Edgewood Convalescent Home in April of 1988. After an extended illness Olive died Wednesday morning, May 23, 1990 at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. She was one hundred and one years of age. Olive was a member of the Edgewood Garden Club. She will be remembered as one who enjoyed gardening, cooking, and all kinds of sewing. Surviving Olive are many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Rose Mae and her parents. Funeral Services were held Saturday, May 26, 1990 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Edgewood, Iowa with Pastor Kathryn McDougal officiating. Organist was Gladys Holthaus. Casket Bearers were Jack Buhr, Glenn Darrow, Burdette Romig, Fred Greenfield, Mert Miller and Roger Mihm. Interment: Cass Township Cemetery. Arrangements were by Leonard-Vernon Funeral Home, Edgewood, Iowa.
