Last Rites for the Acors – Doris and Son
Doris Elaine Hughes was born to Earl Clyde and Frances Elvira (Strayer) Hughes at Palisade. When about 1 year old she moved with her parents to Franklin, where she attended the public schools and grew to womanhood.
On May 4, 19539 she was united in marriage to Arley Schriner, to which union was born two children, LaDonna Jean and Rodney Clyde.
She departed this life April 26, 1953 near Benkelman when the car in which she was riding rammed into the rear of a stalled truck.
Doris Elaine was at one time a member of the Franklin Congregrational Church, later uniting with the Assembly of God Church at Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was faithful in attending church services, and was kind and helpful to thouse around her. At the time of her death she was employed in the Highway Café at Brush, Colorado. Many will recall her as a waitress at Long Café.
She is survived by her daugher, LaDonna of Alliance; sister, Mrs. Gerald Brophy of Franklin, Mrs. Earl Tole of Hastings, Mrs. Jack Henderson of Biloux, Missississippi, Wilma, Kay Francis and Margaret Ellen of Franklin; brothers, Donald of Forth Worth, Texas, Richard Paul of Franklin; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hughes of Franklin; and other relatives and friends.
Obituary is from unknown newspaper.
"Think of—
Stepping on shore and finding it Heaven!
Of taking hold of a hand, and finding it God's hand.
Of breathing a new air, and finding it celestial air.
Of feeling invigorated, and finding it immortality.
Of passing from storm and tempest to an unbroken calm.
Of waking up, and finding it Home."
Sent to Mrs. Hughes with sympathy and comfort from Blanche Graham, a former schoolteacher of Doris Elaine's.
Information below comes from Carol Strayer's research:
Doris is the granddaughter of Cyrus Henry & Margaret Ellen (Niceschwander) Strayer, great granddaughter of Miley & Elmira Strayer, and great granddaughter of John and Catharine (Frazier) Niceschwander, 2nd great granddaughter of Martin & Rachel (Rallya) Strayer.
