Annamae was born Thursday, March 11, 1920 at 17 South 1st Street in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana to Harry Andrew & Ella Marie (Conger) Flora & was the 2nd child born of 6 from this union.

Annamae attended Crawford Public School & Sarah Scott Middle School in Terre Haute, Indiana up to the 8th grade. August 26, 1935 aged 15; Annamae along with her sister Virginia were enrolled at Department of Corrections Girl's School. She & Virginia attended here together in Plainville, Indiana until Annamae's release September 21, 1938 at the age of 18.

In 1940 Annamae at the age of 20 worked as a maid; living with her parents at 131 Park Street, Terre Haute, Indiana. She had worked 39 of the 52 weeks in 1939 with a sophomore high school education.

She married Joe Merritt Saturday, September 21, 1940 in Henderson, Henderson County, Kentucky with Joe's mother, sister & brother in law present.

Annamae & Joe lived with Joe's parents at 1105 Harding Ave, Terre Haute, Vigo, Indiana until 1943. In 1943 They purchased their first home at 1325 Harding Ave., Terre Haute, Vigo, Indiana with Annamae's sister Mary Ann Flora Day & husband Arval Day living with them until 1950.

In 1950 they moved to 3333 N 23rd Street, Terre Haute, Vigo, Indiana where they lived the remainder of their lives. They always had a house full; with family surrounding them. Their door was always open to family near or far. They had 5 children with 4 living to adulthood.

Annamae's love was family; they meant everything to her. She was the kindest & most loving natured woman anyone could have been blessed to know. Homemaker & care giver; Annamae dedicated her life to tending to her family. She is dearly missed by family & friends.

Annamae died on her 54th wedding anniversary; Wednesday, September 21, 1994 at the age of 74 years old from respiratory failure due to COPD.

Terre Haute Tribune, Friday, September 23, 1994 - Annamae Merritt, 74, of 3333 N 23rd St died at 6:20 am Wednesday, Sept 21, 1994 in Royal Oaks Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 11, 1920 at Terre Haute to Harry A Flora & Ella Marie Conger Flora. Survivors include her husband Joe Merritt, two sons & two daughters; one sister Virginia Murphy of Terre Haute; 11 grandchildren & 16 great grandchildren. Services are at 10 am today in DeBaun Idaho St Chapel with the Rev ..... officiating. Burial is in the Bethesda Cemetery. If friends so desire contributions may be made to Visiting Nurses' Association, 686 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute 47807
