Eddie Dean Mathis, 45, a lieutenant with the Dallas Volunteer Fire Department, Dallas, NC, died in an accident while responding to a rescue call.
Mathis was responding to a motor vehicle/pedestrian accident July 16 on his privately owned motorcycle and was involved in a separate motor vehicle accident where he sustained fatal injuries. He died at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The 23-year veteran was a native of Cleveland County and a mechanic for Wix/Dana Corp.
He was a member of the Carolina Cycle Association and TarHeel Rod-Tiques.
He attended First Presbyterian Church, Bessemer City.
