He arrived in NZ in 1861 from Australia.

He married Maria Ann SYKES (born WYETH) on 8 March 1878 at Masterton.

NZ GRO MARRIAGE INDEX: 1878/391 Maria Ann Sykes Orlando Gorringe

He died (suddenly) at his late Fernridge residence, aged 56 years.

He was interred December 14.

He was engaged hay-making on his farm during the day in company with his step-son, Isaac Sykes, and on two or three occasions complained of a gripping pain in his left side, which compelled him to temporary relinquish work. Shortly after 5 o'clock, he left off work, and started for home, which was short distance away, and was followed about half-an-hour later by his son. The latter, on reaching home, found that his father had only preced him by a few minutes.
Dr. Hosking was quickly in attendance, but long before his arrival Gorringe had breathed his last. On examination it was found that death had resulted from a stoppage of the heart's action.

Prior to residing at the Fernridge, held the position of manager at Mr. W. Perry's No. 2 Shop for many years.

NOTES: Orlando's father John GORRINGE or NOAKES, born 1798 at Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, England and died 15 September 1889 in NSW Australia, mother name Hetty/Hatty/Kitty CATT, born 1796 died unknown.
