Joe Davis Cook, age 92, died Sunday, October 12, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Scott County, Kentucky, on October 16, 1915, to the late Charlie and Lizzie Jones Cook. He was a former member, Sunday school teacher and elder of Beards Presbyterian Church and current member of Mount Gilead United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Connersville High School and Lees College. Bro. Cook began preaching the gospel in home settings, on street corners and in local churches in 1940. He began the Haven of Rest Radio Ministry on WCYN Radio Station in 1957, which he continued until he became ill in 2004. His life goal was to see souls won for the Kingdom of God.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Laura Belle Wooton Cook; a son, Joe David Cook; and two sisters, Alice Ratliff and Ada Dailey. Survivors include: a daughter and son-in-law, June and Hiddel Roman; two grandchildren, Michael Cook and Sharon Cook; a sister, Clara Garrison; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16, at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by Rev. Dan Frederick and Rev. Clifford Neat, with burial in Beards Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Beards Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
