The angel came early Sunday morning, April 23, 2006. and carried Melba Akers, aged 67, of Crestview, Fla., to her Heavenly home. She was born April 2, 1939, in Ponce De Leon, Fla., and was a lifelong resident of Crestview. Melba was a member of the Crestview Church of God and an active member of Senior Friends. Melba will be greatly missed by all her family, church friends and everyone who knew her.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Ted Akers.
Survivors include three children, Angie and Michael Southard, Bruce and Karen Akers, and Richard Akers all of Crestview; a brother, Mike Ramer of Crestview; a sister, Frances Dover of Texas; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Crestview Church of God with the Rev. Larry Colins officiation. Burial will follow in Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery. Melba will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family received friends Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Flowers are being accepted, or in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
