George was first married to Catherine A. Unknown. She was born August 01, 1851, and died in Ohio on May 19, 1875. George came to Iowa shortly after the death of his wife, Catherine. He married Alice Ferris on November 03, 1878. George and Alice relocated to Eldon, Iowa in 1871. He was the original proprietor of the Weist Meat Market in Eldon, Iowa, later to be taken over by his son, Harry Weist.
