According to his sister, he died quietly at 4:00 AM on a Friday morning at his home in Montoursville. A hospice nurse attended. He resided at Kehrer Hill Road, Montoursville. He and his wife, the former Ruth E. Remsnyder, celebrated 37 years of marriage July 22, 2004. He was a son of Raymond and Hilda Marie (Calvert) Ohnmeiss. He was named after his Uncle Elwood Calvert. He retired in 1989 from the Williamsport Area School District after 43 years in the maintenance department. Elwood was a member of Heilman United Methodist Church, White Deer Golf Course and the Retirees League of White Deer.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sisters, Beverly Fike of Williamsport, Donnalee Emerick of Avis, and Marlene Person of Cogan Station, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ray, Dean, Cameron, and Maynard Ohnmeiss, and a sister, Joyce Ohnmeiss. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at Sanders Mortuary, Williamsport.
