Leona was the daughter of Isaac and Sarah Jane Galbreath Denny.

She married first to Raymond H. Daglish and had two children; Betty Jean and Robert J. Daglish

They divorced and she remarried to Henry F. Toppe. They had no children of their own but in 1946 adopted Leona's granddaughter, Margaret M. Daglish. (This makes family connections quite confusing at times! Her granddaughter became her daughter so this made Margaret's father her brother by law!!!!)

Leona and Henry raised Margaret's daughter, Colleen G. Sanders, beginning when she was about 6 weeks old. She spent some time with her parents off and on until she was about 5 and then they divorced and Leona and Henry got legal custody of her.

Leona was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. I am Colleen, her granddaughter (daughter, great granddaughter lol) and I never heard anyone ever say a bad word about her. She never met a stranger and had to have a hug from everyone. She was someone so special that I cannot begin to come up with the words to describe how proud to be her daughter I was and am. I never really thought of her as my Grama and until I was older and dumber, I always called my grandparents Mommy and Daddy. Not a day goes by that I don't think of them.

Leona was called to be a Mommy....she even helped to raise my daughter, Lindsey, until we moved to South Carolina in 1981. She was a very very special lady and missed more than I ever thought possible.

~The gentle face and patient smile, With sadness we recall, You had a kindly word for each, And died beloved by all. Your voice keeps whispering gently, Loved ones be brave and true, At the end of life there is sunshine, And I'll be waiting there for you~
