He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Henry Lester Rogers and Ella Mikell Rogers, four brothers, Adolphis, Leroy, Kennon and Grover all of Screven, Georgia and two sisters, Lilly Bell and Mildred of Screven, Georgia.
He was a loving husband to his wife Jewel F. Rogers whom he married in April of 1969. He was a locomotive engineer for SCL and CSX railroad for 34 years before retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of WWII were he served with the United States Navy on board the U.S.S. Monterey.
He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. Mr. Rogers was an avid golfer and wildlife hunter.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife Jewel F. Rogers of Waycross, two children, Gary Rogers wife Mary Ann of Albany, Georgia, Brenda Young husband Charles of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, two step-children, Jeannette Lee husband Jimmy of Hoboken and Janice Brauda husband Ervin of Blackshear, Georgia, his grandchildren Kevin Rogers of Albany, Georgia, Kelly Rogers and Melissa Voile husband Chris of Cummings, Georgia, step grandchildren Alisa Dykes husband Larry, Bradley Rowell wife Amanda, Michelle Ray, and Sam Ray, III wife Jessica, great grandchildren Davis, Tyler, A.J., Georgia, Quincey, Madeline, Lanna and Abby, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at Memorial Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in the Greenlawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at Miles-Odum Funeral Home Friday evening from six until eight pm.
The Deacons of Memorial Baptist Church are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for the service.
