Charolette Opal Higgins of Parma Idaho died on Nov. 13, 2006 at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Ontario, Ore. after suffering a heart attack earlier in the week. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20, 2006 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Parma with Bishop Rod Nielsen conducting. Interment will follow at Parma Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be from 4-8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006 at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Fruitland and from 1-1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the funeral service. Funeral services and arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Fruitland. Charolette was the wife of Norman Higgins and the mother of seven children, Donald, Janet, Julia, Shawn, Jacqueline, Timothy, and David. Charolette was born in Safford, Ariz. on Sept. 23, 1932 to Julia and Charles Johnston of Virden, N.M. Charolette was the oldest of five children that included Rose, Willa, Gaile and Charles. When she was eight years old her father baptized Charolette as member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Gila River. Charolette married Donald Currie in Lordsburg, New Mexico in 1947. They had three children, Donald and the twins Julia and Janet. In 1952, they divorced and Charolette and her three children moved to Mesa, Ariz. On Feb. 14, 1957 she married Norman Higgins who had two children, Shawn and Jacqueline. Norman was an active duty service member with the United States Air Force and the family lived in Oklahoma, the Philippines, Okinawa, Arizona, Idaho, and Maine. Together they had two children, Timothy and David. After retiring from the military in 1989, the family moved to Boise Idaho. In 1990 Norman took a job with a Silver Mine they moved to a little cabin on the Jordan Creek in the ghost town of Delamar Idaho. Charolette's health became fragile and they moved to Kearney Nebraska. They returned to Idaho a few years later and lived in Saint Anthony, Fruitland and finally Parma. The summer of 2006 was difficult for Charolette and she had three bouts of illness requiring hospitalization. Her heart eventually failed last week. Charolette is survived by her mother, Julia Johnston of Smithville, Texas; her husband, Norman Higgins of Parma; her children, Janet Sue (Robert) Buck of Odessa, Neb., Julia Ann (Eugene) Gongaware of Havalock, N.C., Shawn M. Higgins of Las Vegas, Nev., Jacqualine Higgins of Hyannis, Mass., Timothy B. Higgins of Boise, Idaho, and David D. Higgins of Parma; a brother, Charles R. Johnston of Boise, Idaho; three sisters, Rose (Billy) Shields of Payson, Ariz., Willa Johnston of Mesa, Ariz. and Gaile Kelly of Smithville, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
