Agnes Tyner's father, William Richard Tyner, Sr., was born about 1740 in Chowan Co., N.C. According to early newspaper chronicles, William and his first wife, Elizabeth Jane Tyner, whom he married in 1761 at Johnston Co., N.C., lived on Boyd's Creek in Elbert Co., GA. Richard was closely associated with the Cherokee Indians and family tradition claims he was part Cherokee himself. Richard was absent from home when a group of Indians, probably Creek, killed his wife, Jane, dashed his baby's, Nancy Tyner (1777-1778), head against a tree and carried off his daughters, Mary and Tamar, to a Coweta town (Lower Creek Indian tribe, the Cowetas). His son, Noah, hid in a tree which was known thereafter as "Noah's Ark." (Ref: Historical Collections of Georgia, Pg. 440).

William Richard Tyner married secondly, Agnes Dougherty, in 1779 at Wilkes Co., GA.

The children of William Richard Tyner and second wife, Agnes (Dougherty) Tyner were:
1) Frances Tyner, b. 1780 Wilkes Co., GA, d. Aft. 1840 Campbellton, Campbell Co., GA or Elbert Co., GA.
2) Elizabeth Tyner, b. 1780 Wilkes County, Georgia, d. Bet. 1860 - 1870 Pickens District, South Carolina.
3) Abigail Tyner, b. 1786 Wilkes Co., GA, d. Bet. 1856 - 1860 Franklin Co., AL.
4) Richard Tyner, Jr., b. 1788 Wilkes-Elbert Co., GA, d. Bet. 1840 - 1850 Elbert or Franklin Co., GA.
5) Agnes Tyner, b. 1790 Elbert Co., GA, d. Circa 1838/39 Franklin Co., GA. NOTE: The attached documented list of children of Robert Green Crump, III (aka Sr.) and his wife, Mary (Parr) Crump, list the two wives of their son, Robert Green Crump, IV (aka Jr.). His first wife, Agnes Tyner's, birth date was listed as "about 1785" instead of "1790".
6) Martha B. Tyner, b. 1792 Elbert C0., GA, d. 1884 Dekalb Co., GA.
7) Charity Tyner, b. 1794 Elbert Co., GA, d. Aft. 1850 Dekalb County, Georgia.

Agnes Tyner (born about 1785/90), daughter of William Richard Tyner, Sr. and his second wife, Agnes (Dougherty) Tyner,, married Robert Green Crump, IV (aka Jr.) in 1805 at either Elbert or Franklin Co., GA (Reference: "Adventurers of Purse and Person, Virginia, 1607-1624/5" by John Frederick Dorman, Vol. I, 4th Ed., 2004, p365). This very reliable reference states the Agnes Tyner was born about 1785. NOTE: See also the abstract of the 1824 will of Richard Tyner, Sr. attached to this memorial which confirms that Agnes Crump was the daughter of Richard Tyner, Sr. and that Nancy Tyner was the granddaughter of Richard Tyner, Sr. The parents of Nancy (Tyner) Crump are unknown presently.

Robert Green Crump, IV was listed on the 1807 tax list of Bear Creek, Franklin Co., GA. The following dates and places for Robert also apply to his first wife, Agnes (Tyner) Crump.

The 1811 property tax list of Captain Purcells District of Franklin Co., GA contains the name Robert Crump III (1745-1823) and several of his sons including, John D. Crump, Richard (Lane (aka Lee) Crump, Robert Green Crump, Jr. (aka IV) and Silas Crump. They were living in close proximity to each other. NOTE: A documented list of Robert Green Crump, III (Sr.) and his wife, Mary (Parr) Crump's children is attached to this memorial (Ref: "Adventurers of Purse and Person, Virginia, 1607-1624/5" by John Frederick Dorman, Vol. I, 4th Ed., 2004, p365). This reference also records Richard Crump'smiddle name as "Lee" and records Robert Crump, IV (aka Jr.) 's middle name as "Green".

An 1818 property tax list of Captain Akins District, Franklin Co., GA contains the name Robert Green Crump, Jr. (aka IV) living adjacent to his brother, Richard Lane (aka Lee) Crump.

Robert G. Crump, Jr. (IV), a farmer, and his family were enumerated in the 07 Aug 1820 US Census of Christian, Elbert Co, GA. There were only 3 people in the household, e. g. Robert Green Crump and his wife, Agnes (Tyner) Crump, both listed in the age range of 16 to 25 which was inaccurate. There was only one child in the household, a female listed in the age category of "Under 16". This was Martha Crump who was born in 1808. NOTE: The inscription of "South Carolina" on Martha's tombstone as her birth place is incorrect. According to the 1850 US Census for DeKalb County, Alabama and the 1860, 1870 and 1880 US Censuses for Etowah County, Alabama her birthplace was "Georgia". In addition, as noted above, her parents were married in Georgia in 1805. A disclaimer has been added to her memorial exposing this error.

The 1823 property tax list of Bear Creek, Captain Tabors District, Franklin Co., GA contains the name of Robert Crump, Sr. (III) and his sons, Robert Green Crump, Jr. (IV) and Richard (Lane (aka Lee) Crump with adjacent land holdings. (NOTE: This record, like others, contains the names Robert Crump, Sr. and Robert "GREEN" Crump. Jr. They were father and son. Robert Crump, Sr. was the son of Robert Green Crump II, thus, for the record he is considered both Robert Green Crump III and Robert Green Crump, Sr.)

The 1827, 1828, 1829 and 1832 property tax lists of Bear Creek, Captain Mills District, Franklin Co., GA contains the name Robert Green Crump, Jr. (aka IV) with a total of 1138 acres.

The 1830 US Census of Franklin County, GA enumerated Robert G. Crump, Jr. (IV) and his family.

Robert G. Crump was appointed Post Master in the 25th Dist. of Franklin Co., GA on 19 Jul 1832 through 25 Jul 1833. He was also reportedly Justice of Franklin Co., GA Inferior Court, 1837-41.

The 1840 US Census of Elbert Co., GA enumerated the family of Robert G. Crump. Just from this record, it appears that his wife, Agnes (Tyner) Crump, may have died prior to 1840 as there was no female listed in her age range of 50-60 (her actual age was 55 Y/O).

Since there are no records so far that reveal her exact fate, the following speculation about Robert's first wife, Agnes (Tyner) Crump, is based on the 1997 published Crump family tradition by Tom A. Crump of Madisonville, TX. As with all family traditions, take it with a grain of salt until proven otherwise. The story goes that Agnes Tyner was the daughter of William Richard Tyner (born about 1740 in Chowan Co., N.C. - died 1824 Elbert Co., GA), who was part Cherokee Indian (the Tyner surname was common at this time among the Cherokees who had adopted English names and customs very early). William Tyner is recognized by the DAR (Ancestor #: A060464) for his Patriotic Service during the Revolutionary War (Source: O'Kelley & Warren, Georgia Revolutionary War Bounty Land Records, Page 73) and was a Revolutionary War soldier who fought in the Wilkes Co. GA, Battle of Kettle Creek in Feb. 1779, the last battle of the war. Again, according to family tradition, prior to the 1840 US Census, unknowable family dynamics caused Robert Green Crump, Jr. (aka IV) to "force Agnes out of his household and back to the reservation, reportedly in Mississippi, into an untraceable fate with the Cherokees at about the time of the inhumane "Trail of Tears (1838-1839)". The Tyner family's simple theory offered for this cruel action by her husband, Robert, states that he wanted to marry a younger woman, which he did. The will of William Richard Tyner, probated on 10 Nov 1824 in Elbert Co., GA, mentions his daughter, Agnes Crump, and his granddaughter, Nancy Tyner, who was "given and bequeathed for her to take choice of one of my colts". In fact, Nancy Tyner signed the will (Ref: Elbert Co., GA, Will Bk. "M". p. 339, will of Richard Tyner, 13 Sep 1821-10 Nov 1824; Old Will Bk. "N", p. 33.) and married Robert Green Crump, IV as his second wife on 16 Jan 1846 in Elbert Co., GA and died about 1870 in Franklin County, GA. NOTE: See attached abstract of the will of William Richard Tyner, Sr. (Source: "Historical Collection of Georgia Chapters, Daughters of the American Revolution, Vol. III, Elbert County, Georgia Wills; Reference: Elbert Co., GA, Will Bk. "M". p. 339, will of Richard Tyner, 13 Sep 1821-10 Nov 1824; Old Will Bk. "N", p. 33.).

I will not speculate on the conundrum caused by the contradiction of the Tyner family lore of the disappearance of Agnes (Tyner) Crump and the possibility of her being buried with her husband, Robert Green Crump, IV (Jr.) as inscribed on the attached tombstone although Crump family written records show that Henry F. Crump (1880-1976), great grandson of Robert Green Crump, IV had two bodies moved to the Sunshine Methodist Church Cemetery, location of the attached gravestone. This gravestone photo was shared on Ancestry.com by Judi Hardegree on 19 Jul 2014. The caption states that her grandfather, Henry F. Grump, had the headstone placed after he had the remains of Robert Green Crump and his wife, Aggie (Agnes), moved from Bear Creek, Franklin Co., GA and reinterred in the Sunshine Methodist Church Cemetery, also located in Franklin County, Georgia.
