- From the Ringgold Record of May, 1880
Little did we think last week when publishing a sketch from the life of J.W. Gustin, that in the next issue we would be called upon to chronicle his death. But such is the case, the Grim Caller having taken him from earth. We can not add to the account of last week, except to say that he is sincerely mourned by a large circle of warm friends. He left a wife, and grown-up children, who feel sadly bereft.

1870 census of Jefferson, Ringgold, Iowa:
Jeremiah, Rachel, son Jeremiah, daughters Frances and Rosetta.

1860 census of Washington, Ringgold, Iowa:
J. W., Rachel A., Alphons M., Jeremiah W., Hanah S., Rachel V., and Thomas Gustin.

1850 census of Franklin, Adams, Ohio:
Jeremiah, Rachel, Alpheus, Jeremiah, and Hanah.
