Mattie Gregory is the daughter of Charles Lon and Barbara Kemper Bates, who are also buried in East Hill Cemetery, as are her sisters, Artie Bates Downs, Mary Bates Feaster and Nora Bates Newkirk. Mattie and Earl loved to entertain. They had house guests from all over the country. They loved children [although they had none of their own]... nieces and nephews loved to stay with them and the children of their neighborhood loved them as well.
